Origin of FASHOM:
When Founder and CEO Mitali Saxena launched FASHOM with the goal of celebrating individual self-expression and unedited personal style of real people, she combined the words of two of her favorite things—fashion and ‘om,’ the sound of meditation—to make FASHOM.
At the core of FASHOM’S mission is an unwavering support for body positivity and body confidence, and a belief that all bodies are equally valuable and deserve acceptance and praise. FASHOM offers styling services for everyone—regardless of size, shape, or color—and will never make someone feel like they must fit into a specific size or style. FASHOM professional stylists—real people, not bots!—offer fashionable options to match the tastes, lifestyle, and budgets of their clients.
Founded in April 2015 by Mitali Saxena, FASHOM began as a mobile social platform celebrating the everyday self-expression and unedited unique styles of real people—the everywoman and everyman—around the world. Sharing and exploring global fashion by real people—on filters, no photoshop, no retouching, FASHOM now reaches over 100,000 fashion-savvy users world wide.
FASHOM recognizes that many of the images on today's most popular social media platforms are altered and enhanced in some way to create a more "perfect" look. These "perfect" images can be intimidating and promote an unrealistic and unattainable ideal of self-image. This only perpetuates the already all-too-common body-image and self-esteem issues that affect many women and men today.
Unlike other fashion-oriented platforms where users feel they have to meet a certain aesthetic criteria to share their images, FASHOM is a space where people don't have to be intimidated by professional-looking pictures or shy about posting. FASHOM started the #BetterAsIAm movement on social media to help people connect from all over the world and celebrate themselves exactly the way they are. What you'll find on FASHOM are #nofilter fashion inspirations, and a global forum of real fashion-loving women and men relating to one another over their personal styles, and forming a community around a common interest of fashion.
For many people today, finding balance as a professional, parent, spouse, friend, caregiver leaves little for online shopping, let alone physically scouring the racks of their favorite retailers and brands. In December of 2017, FASHOM set out on a new path to bring personal styling services to its community.
The mission was simple: help users find fashionable pieces that fit their tastes, budget, and lifestyle.
Now, FASHOM’s network of professional stylists work with clients from all over the United States. They hand-select unique apparel and accessories to fit the tastes, budgets, and lifestyles of their clients. Whether you’re looking to find new clothing that looks great on your body or don’t have the extra time to shop online or in real life, FASHOM can help you grow a wardrobe that makes you feel confident, beautiful, and ready to take on whatever lies ahead.
We’re also thrilled to announce our support of Second Chance Rescue NYC. Second Chance Rescue NYC’s mission is to reduce animal overpopulation in shelters, rescue and rehabilitate critically injured and neglected animals, and connect the community to services that enable animals to remain in their homes. This mission—along with all of the amazing work by the staff and volunteers at SCR NYC—strongly aligns with FASHOM’S mission to offer clothing and apparel made with sustainable vegan materials only.
